SERVICES

Most of the medical services offered at our medical clinic are covered by your provincial medical insurance (MSI) so it is important to bring your Health Card with you when you visit the clinic. Some of the services that we offer are not covered by MSI so the cost of these services is the responsibility of the patient. The clinic accepts cash and will issue a receipt for any services for which the patients incurs a charge. Please review our list of services to see where a fee might be applicable.

Family Medicine

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages; the specialist is named a family physician. It is a division of primary care that provides continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family across all ages, genders, diseases, and parts of the body. Our Family Physicians work to collaborate with our health care team to ensure our patients health care needs are met in a timely fashion. All our Family Physicians are certified with the Canadian College of Family Physicians.

Walk-in Clinic

ScotiaMed provides for immediate medical needs of patients with our walk in clinic. We offer convenient morning and evening hours as well as weekends. We will, with the approval of the patient, provide information concerning the visit to their family physician. Our Physicians are qualified Family Physicians and Emergency Physicians. Patients do not need to make appointment. Please note that the Walk in Clinic does NOT prescribe narcotics.

Pharmacy

Sobeys has a pharmacy to meet all prescription needs. Their hours of operation cover all clinic operational hours. The Pharmacists and staff are happy to discuss any issues concerning your prescription needs.

Wart Treatments

Wart treatment called cryotherapy is available at our clinic. The substance used is very similar to liquid nitrogen and treats the wart by freezing and killing the skin cells that are infected with the wart virus. Thicker warts may require more than one treatment.

Please Note: There is a $10.00 cash fee for this service per wart treatment.

Suturing

The suturing of minor lacerations can be performed at our clinic. Please note – young children may require the services of the IWK Hospital. Please call and our staff will consult the attending physician on duty to make this determination.

Please Note: There is a $25.00 cash fee for this service.

Ear Syringing

Having trouble hearing? Does one of your ears feel “plugged”? Your external ear canal may be blocked with ear wax. A quick, safe and effective way to deal with this problem is to have the wax flushed out of your ear canal. Ear syringing can be performed by the physicians at our clinic.

Please Note: There is a $15.00 cash fee per ear for this service.

Vaccination Administration

Planning a trip south? Your travel agent may suggest that you get some vaccinations before you go. You can also visit wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel to get up-to-date travel health recommendations for your particular destination. You can visit our clinic to have your travel vaccinations administered by one of our physicians.

Please Note: There is a $20.00 cash fee for this service.

Flu Shot Clinics

We will again offer Flu Shot clinics in the fall. Flu shots are also available in our walk In clinic. Please contact our staff in early October to determine when these immunizations will be available from the Department of Health. All Nova Scotians are encouraged to be immunized, however, the traditional high risk groups(patients with chronic illness and age greater than 65) will still be a priority.

Driver's Medical Examination

Driver’s Medical Examinations and other pre-employment examinations can be performed at our clinic.

Please Note: There is a $75.00 cash fee to complete the Driver’s Medical Examination. The fee for other types of assessments (pre-employment medicals) will be determined by the treating physician.

Other Services

Vaccines (not covered by MSI) ie. Twinrix (Hep A and B ) Zostavax (Shingles) $20.00 cash fee per injection

Pregnancy test $5.00 cash fee

Sick notes $15.00 cash fee
